How can you capture candid moments while photographing families?

How can I help my family create candid moments? · Relax as much as possible. Planning some fun activities is a great way to get candid photos. Kids don’t like to have their picture taken, so keeping them entertained is a great way to avoid tears and frustration. Plan some fun activities like stacking rocks or bring blocks, looking for creature in the tidepools or even just playing with a favorite stuffed animal.

I’ve photographed hundreds of families across Southern California, and I always find the rhythm even when it starts out a little chaotic. By embracing imperfection, families can create photographs that are not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful. By focusing on these fleeting moments of connection, I create photographs that serve as timeless reminders of the love that binds a family together. I’ve had quite a few families who feel the need to remove these items just to get a nice photo but I like to remind my families that its ok to leave these personal items in sometimes.

As a portrait photographer in Saint Louis, Missouri, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing countless beautiful family moments unfold through my lens.
